Peter Maer

Peter Maer counts his experiences at WSB Radio as THE formative phase of a career that included nearly 40 years on the White House beat. Maer, who recently retired from his post as a CBS News White House Correspondent, says WSB legends Elmo Ellis and Aubrey Morris were instrumental mentors. Maer anchored newscasts and covered the Atlanta city and Georgia state governments for Radio 750 in the early 1970s. He also served as news director of WGST Radio.

He is the five-time recipient of the Merriman Smith Award for Presidential Coverage Under Deadline Pressure. Maer was honored with the Edward R. Murrow Award. He received an honorary doctorate degree from his alma mater, Southern Illinois University.

Maer is a native of Granite City, IL. He and his wife Elizabeth have two grown children and five grandchildren
