Frank Gaither
1910 - 1999
Frank Gaither was born October 1, 1910 in Montgomery. After completing his public school education, he attended Oglethorpe University. He worked part-time at the school’s radio station, WJTL, as announcer script writer, and producer. Gaither fell in love with radio and left Oglethorpe for a job at WTOC in Savannah. A chance to join WGST took him to Atlanta. At WGST he began as an announcer, hosting “Frankie & Johnny”, a man on the street program. He served as program director and eventually became the station’s general manager. In 1947, he was hired as sales manager at WSB and in 1951 became station manager, then general manager in 1958.In 1969 he was promoted to executive vice president of the Cox Broadcasting Division. In 1973 he retired after 40 years in radio. He served as president of the Georgia Association of Broadcasters and was inducted into the Georgia Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2000. Gaither passed away in 1999.
