Deanna Brown Thomas
Board of Directors
Deanna grew up in Augusta, attended Wesley College in Delaware and Towson University in Baltimore, where she graduated with a degree in marketing. Her first job after school was at The Washington Times, where she worked as an advertising account executive. While working there she received career-changing advice from her father. "He called me one day and left a message on my voice mail. When he heard my voice, he was impressed," she said. "Baby girl, you're in the wrong business. You need to be in radio." She took his advice and left the newspaper to attend Columbia School of Broadcasting. After three years in Washington, she returned to Augusta, where she worked in radio as a program director and personality for more than a decade. In 1994, her father named her Executive Vice-President of James Brown Enterprises. After his death in 2006, Deanna and her siblings founded The Brown Family Children Foundation to continue a legacy of charitable giving started by her father. Deanna serves as the nonprofit organizations president. She and her husband Shawn own and operate several businesses in the Augusta area.
